The Czech team decided a close game to their advantage, beating Belgium by just a single run that they managed to score in the eighth inning. They now play Germany in the fight for 5th place (Sunday, 11:00).
It was just the second inning at the Ballpark Rheinaue when the Czech team took the lead on a Home Run by Petr Cech, putting them up one to zero. One inning later they added on, scoring three runs off of four hits and expanding their lead to four to zero. In the fourth Inning the Belgian offense first capitalized, scoring two on a Home Run by Sam Boermans and an RBI double. In just the next inning they even tied the game at four runs a side. It took until the eighth inning for a decision, but Martin Muzik hit a Home Run to give the Czech Republic the lead, Closer Daniel Padysak earned the save in the ninth.
The Czech starter Boris Bokaj threw 4.2 innings allowing four runs, but only two of them were earned. Four Czech relievers combined to shut the door, allowing no more runs. Offensively both Petr Cech and Martin Muzik showed up with their Home Runs. The Belgian starter Cedric Desmedt threw seven innings allowing four Runs to score, for the Belgian offense each Benjamin Dille, Sam Boermans and Benjamin Goffaux recorded two hits.
