The Austrian team took an early 4:0-lead against Great Britain and never looked back in the first placement game of the European Championship 2019 in Bonn. In the end Team Austria outlasted the British Team in their second victory with the score of 6:1.
Moritz Scheicher set the tone in the first inning with his lead-off home run against British Starter Rei Martinez (1.1 IP, 4H, 5 ER). After conceding four more runs early in the game Martinez’ day ended in the second inning. Ethan Solomon (4.2 IP, 0 ER, 7K) took over on the mound. He silenced the Austrian bats in the following Innings, but the damage was done. The Austrian starter Tobias Kiefer (6 IP, 1 ER, 4K) kept his opponents honest in his strong six innings of work for the win.
Austria will face the winner of the game between Croatia and Sweden on Friday, while Great Britain will take on the loser of that duel.
