With a 13:7 win, Great Britain for now remains alive in their quest for 4th place in Group A and thus maintains its chance to advance to the quarter finals. Manager Liam Carroll´s team now is in need of help by Germany in their nightcap vs. the Czech Republic. Great Britain needs a win by Germany to finish ahead of the Czech Republic due to their favorable tiebreaker and to go on and face Group B winner Italy in the quarterfinals.
Shortstop Will Savage blasted a leadoff Homerun to give Great Britain an early lead. His teammates gradually tacked on more runs, including a 3rd inning safety squeeze RBI by Richard Klijn with the bases loaded to make it 5:0. In spite of the early deficit, the winless Swedish team showed signs of life. After two runs in the bottom of the 3rd and a solo Homerun by Peter Johanessen in the 4th, the team from Scandinavia briefly cut the lead to 3:5. But in end, Great Britain weren ´t going to waste their chance to advance and in the end coasted to a 13:7 win. After the completion of their suspended game vs. the Netherlands, down 2:10 in the 9th, later today, Great Britain will now keep its fingers crossed for a German win while Sweden will keep focusing on remaining in Pool A.
