Italy also won its third game of the European Championship easily, defeating Great Britain 12-2 in seven innings. Anthony Granato became the third batter of the Squadra Azzurra in the last three games to go deep twice in a game, going 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI overall. Laidel Chapelli had another nice day at the plate. He collected a homerun, three singles, two runs and three RBI in four at-bats. The British team only was able to avoid the shutout with a two-run shot by Sam Wiley in the seventh. But it was not enough to get a rally going.
Cody Cillo (W 1-0) received the starting nod and only gave up a fourth-inning single and a pair of walks in five scoreless innings, striking out seven. Chris Di Roma closed it out. On the opposing side, Michael Renery (L 0-1) conceded nine hits, eight runs and four bb in four innings. Ethan Mack and Ted Gieschen also got in the game. Catcher Mitch Evans did hurt his arm (irritated nerv) on a throw to second and had to be replaced behind the plate by Sam Wiley.
